More concept hotels and capacity increases

German tourism groups are opening more own-brand hotels and increasing Mediterranean capacity in response to good demand.

TUI has opened its first Family Life hotel on Sardinia. The new TUI Family Life Janna e Sole is a fully-renovated four-star hotel with 286 rooms close to Budoni. It is one of three new Family Life hotels this summer. The other two lie on Spain’s Costa de la Luz and the Greek island of Samos. TUI has also opened two adults-only Sensimar hotels in Tunisia, one in Hammamet and the other in Sousse.

FTI is adding more flights to Tunisia from various German airports this summer as bookings soar by three-digit rates compared to last year. The Munich-based tour operator will offer 9,000 additional seats to Hammamet, Sousse and Djerba. In total, FTI has 30 weekly flights to Tunisia this summer, a double-digit increase on last year. “We’ve always believed in Tunisia and maintained our programme for the country, even in challenging times,” said Elia Gad, FTI’s Group Head of Destination Orient and Middle East. “The strong increase in bookings for the current season show our decision was correct.”

TUIfly is increasing capacity for this year’s autumn half-term holidays in October with 7,000 additional seats to various destinations. TUI’s in-house carrier will offer 2,000 more seats to Majorca and Crete respectively, while there are more flights to Gran Canaria, Kos, Rhodes and the Cape Verde Islands. In addition, there are more flights to Hurghada and Marsa Alam in Egypt starting in late October.

Southern Europe specialist Olimar is the latest German tour operator to open up its winter 2017/18 programme for travel agency bookings. Olimar has expanded flights to Madeira and the Algarve with different carriers.

DER Touristik is expanding its network of destination management companies with a new partner in South Africa. DER and long-standing incoming agency Tourvest have created a joint venture, Go Vacation Africa, based in Johannesburg. The new company will handle DER Touristik Group customers in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania.
