More international speakers have been lined up for the fvw Kongress in September. The early booking discount ends on June 20.
This year’s turbulent tourism trends will come into focus in two special sessions on the first day of the conference, which takes place on September 6 -7 in Essen, north-west Germany.
Osman Ayik (President of the Turkish Hoteliers Association Türofed and hotelier in Kemer) and Nora Ali (Vice Chairman Egypt Travel Trade Association and CEO DTS Egypt & Emirates) will discuss “How can Turkey and Egypt make a comeback and how should destinations react?” Immediately afterwards, Oliver Dörschuck (COO TUI Germany), Dietmar Gunz (CEO FTI Group) and Thomas Bösl (Executive Director RTK) will tackle the question “How resilient is the tourism business model?”
One reliable growth segment remains the cruise market, and two international experts will look at the sector’s prospects for the coming years. Gavin Smith, Senior Vice President International Royal Caribbean Cruises, will speak on “USA, China and the world: cruise industry trends”, while Andreas Gangale, Head of Corporate Product MSC Cruises, will focus on European developments in a presentation entitled “Full steam ahead for European shipping lines”.
Two of the biggest “disrupters” in the tourism industry – Booking.com and Airbnb – will also explain their business models at the conference. Remko van Zanten, Global Director Partner Services Booking.com, will speak on the topic of “The digital traveller: how to reach customers on all online channels, delight them and keep them loyal”. For Airbnb, Alexander Schwarz, General Manager Germany/Austria/Switzerland, will cover “Global platforms, local presence – the importance of technology, emotions and marketing for travel sales”.
Google will come into focus in a session asking whether the technology giant “will change from a search engine to a booking engine? What the new destination tools and Book on Google mean for the travel industry.” These topics will be discussed by Christian Bärwind (Head of Travel, Google Germany), Michael Buller (President Verband Internet Reisevertrieb VIR), Sebastian Riedle (Senior Director Online Sales Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines) and Haakon Herbst (Hotelier and President HSMA).
As already reported, top speakers at the two-day conference include Peter Fankhauser, CEO Thomas Cook Group, Karl Ulrich Garnadt, Lufthansa board member responsible for Eurowings, and Richard Fenning, Group CEO of security specialist Control Risks in London. Other speakers will cover topics such as the continuing technological transformation of the tourism industry and tourism start-ups.
Some of the presentations will be in English, and the entire event will be simultaneously translated from German to English.
In addition, there is plenty of time for networking at the accompanying fvw Travel Expo exhibition and at the evening party at the Colosseum Theater in Essen city centre after the first day.
An early booking discount of 10% off the conference price is available until June 20.
