Majorca overtakes Canaries

A hotel on Majorca was the most popular Spanish hotel for German holidaymakers in early November even though it is the prime booking season for winter holidays on the Canary Islands, the latest fvw Hotelometer ranking showed.

The Blau Punta Reina Resort in Cala Mandia (Porto Cristo Novo) came first in the fortnight from October 31 – November 13, after being placed fourth two weeks previously in the demand-based hotel ranking. The four-star property was boosted by strong interest from families, possibly indicating they were already looking at booking the hotel for next summer.

The following places were occupied by well-known hotels on the Canary Islands, including the Lopesan Costa Meloneras, the Sotavento Beach Club and SBH Jandia Resort, while the Iberostar Club Cala Barca on Majorca was fifth.

There was an interesting destination split between the family ranking, where eight of the ten mostly frequently requested hotels were on Majorca, and the couples ranking, with eight hotels on the Canary Islands, and including three adults-only properties. The overall ranking also had eight Canary Island properties and two on Majorca.

In Turkey, the Royal Dragon in Kumköy remained number one, with the Primasol Hane Family and the Miracle Resort in Lara in second and third places. A new entry in fifth place was the Eftalia Village complex at Türkler, Alanya, which proved popular both with families (2nd place) and couples (5th).

In Greece, there were few changes in the ranking. The Mitsis Rinela Beach remained number one, ahead of the Lindos Princess Beach and the Pilot Beach Resort, while the Anissa Beach & Village, the second-most popular hotel in the couples’ ranking, remained in seventh place in the overall ranking.

The fvw Hotelometer is a fortnightly ranking of the most popular tourist hotels in Spain, Greece and Turkey, showing customer enquiries but not actual bookings. It is based on all enquiries in the Traveltainment reservations system used by German travel agents and online booking engines. The data, supplied by IT company TrevoTrend, is split into different categories (overall, families, couples, singles and star ratings).
