Attractive prices for five-star hotels and bargain offers in Turkey proved popular for German holidaymakers in the peak January booking period, according to the latest fvw Hotelometer ranking.

Falling prices due to weak demand meant German consumers showed more interest in five-star hotels in Turkey in the fortnight from January 9-22. Enquiries for five-star hotels increased to a high 38% compared to 35% in the previous fortnight, while a stable 35% of enquiries were for 4.5 star hotels, and the number of enquiries for 4-star hotels dropped slightly to 22% from 23%.
This trend could not be seen for Greece and Spain which are enjoying strong demand at present. In the Greece ranking, a stable 54% of enquiries were for 4-star hotels, 10% for 4.5-star (compared to 11% in the previous fortnight) and 13% for 5-star properties (compared to 12%). Similarly, an unchanged 52% of enquiries for hotels in Spain were for 4-star hotels
In the Turkey overall ranking, the Royal Dragon in Kumköy continued to dominate, ahead of the PrimaSol Hane Family and the Fame Residence Lara & Spa, while the Eftalia Village in Alanya dropped back to fifth from second in the previous ranking. Most dramatic, however, was the second place in the couples’ ranking for the Aspen hotel in Antalya, a 3.5-star hotel with an average ‘dumping’ price of just €143 per person.

The fvw Hotelometer is a fortnightly ranking of the most popular tourist hotels in Spain, Greece and Turkey, showing customer enquiries but not actual bookings. The rankings are based on all enquiries in the Traveltainment reservations system used by German travel agents and online booking engines. The data, supplied by IT company TrevoTrend, is split into different categories (overall, families, couples, singles and star ratings). The price per person is the average of all enquiries.
